2020 MLB Draft Division II Recap

The 2020 MLB Draft, considerably impacted given the global pandemic, was shortened to five rounds from the usual 40, but Division II was still able to have some representation, regardless, as a pair of D-II players were drafted.

The two D-II players who had their names called in the 2020 draft were pitcher Brandon Pfaadt (Bellarmine) with the 149th overall pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks, and shortstop Shay Whitcomb (UC San Diego) with the 160th overall pick by the Houston Astros, the final pick in the draft at the end of the fifth round.

The Astros are familiar to the D-II landscape, having drafted, now, 23 D-II prospects in the last six years, the second-most in MLB behind only the St. Louis Cardinals. For the Diamondbacks, Pfaadt is the 13th D-II player drafted since 2015 for the organization.

The draft recap is, obviously, very short for this year, but nonetheless, here it is:

Round 5
149. Brandon Pfaadt (Bellarmine) - Arizona Diamondbacks - RHP - JR
160. Shay Whitcomb (UC San Diego) - Houston Astros - SS - JR
