2021 MLB Draft Division II Recap

The 2021 MLB Draft was a little bit of a return to normalcy, as the draft expanded from its five rounds in 2020 to 20 rounds this year. Still a far cry from the "regular" 40 that we had become accustomed to. However, it is still ample opportunity for some of Division II's most talented student-athletes to find their spot in the professional world. Over the last three days, we had just that, as 22 D-II baseball players were drafted in this year's event. We have all the numbers and statistics for them below.

The Sunshine State Conference, for the fifth time in the last seven years, had the most draft picks of any conference, with five, led by Florida Southern's three draft picks.

The St. Louis Cardinals will continue their reign as the top MLB organization when it comes to drafting D-II representatives. With their two picks in this year's draft, the Cardinals have now drafted 29 D-II players since 2015, easily outpacing the second-place Houston Astros at 24, who also made a D-II selection this year.

Chad Patrick, the top D-II draft pick this year, and the first draftee ever from Purdue-Northwest, went 107th overall to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the highest D-II draft pick since Josiah Gray went 72nd in 2018. Patrick is the highest draft pick from the GLIAC since 1998, when Matt Thornton (Grand Valley State) was drafted 22nd overall.

With all that said, here is a list of all 22 NCAA Division II draftees in the 2021 MLB Draft, by round first. Below that is a breakdown of how the draft played out in various forms. Please be aware that all positions and classes are taken from what is listed for the player on the MLB Draft Tracker.
