We are running a little bit late this week, so I'm only going to recap last week's Top 25 teams (plus a few outsiders looking to make their way in to the rankings) in this post so we can get on to this weekend's preview post! The top teams continued to roll last week, including Millersville pushing their impressive winning streak out to 19 games. Tusculum's Placido Torres put up yet another double-digit strikeout game, fanning 12 Cobras against Coker, and leads the universe in strikeouts with 92 in 54 innings. On the offensive side, UMD's Wojciechowski's lead the nation in batting, with Tyler second in batting average (.571) and Alex first in home runs per game and RBI per game (and fourth in slugging percentage) so far.
Here is your Top 25 recap of the week!
#1 St. Cloud State (15-0): The Huskies were off this past week and have already had this weekend's NSIC opening series with Wayne State College postponed.
#2 Franklin Pierce (18-2): The Ravens had a 5-0 week, sweeping Dowling on Friday (6-2 and 8-2), beating Dominican (9-6) and Pace (6-4) on Saturday, and capping their week with a 4-3 win at home over Post on Wednesday.
#3 Millersville (20-1): A ridiculous 19 straight victories now for Millersville after sweeping a four-game PSAC series from Mansfield (6-2, 3-1, 8-2, 13-2) and taking a 9-7 contest against Chestnut Hill this week.
#4 Tampa (22-4): The rare slip-up has been happening for the Spartans lately. Shockingly, the Spartans lost two-of-three to Nova Southeastern in conference play over the weekend at home, then fell in a road contest to Valdosta State, dropping three-of-four before picking up a 14-10 victory at Embry-Riddle.
#5 Colorado Mesa (22-4): The Mavericks took three-of-four from Colorado Mines in RMAC play last weekend, winning 4-1, 2-1 and 4-3 with a 2-1 loss in the second game of the series. They began this weekend's RMAC series at New Mexico Highlands with a 6-1 victory in game one on Thursday.
#6 Columbus State (22-7): The Cougars dropped two-of-three to Lander in a weekend PBC series, winning only the final game of the series. They picked up a mid-week win over Point, as well.
#7 Quincy (13-3): QU cemented themselves as one of the favorites in the region by sweeping a pair of games over Southern Indiana (7-4 and 8-4) last weekend. They also picked up a mid-week 17-8 victory over Illinois-Springfield.
#8 Missouri Southern (18-6): The Lions took two-of-three from Missouri Western last weekend, then swept a trio of mid-week games against Wisconsin-Parkside (twice) and Central Oklahoma. They dropped their opener of this weekend's MIAA series against Washburn on Thursday, however.
#9 California Baptist (23-6): The Lancers swept a four-game PacWest series on the road at Hawaii Hilo last weekend and took two of the first three against Hawaii Pacific this week. They play the final game of their series against HPU on Thursday evening.
#10 West Florida (16-11): UWF picked up an impressive GSC series victory by taking two-of-three from West Georgia at home, winning games two (6-5) and three (4-0).
#11 West Alabama (23-5): The Tigers took two-of-three from North Alabama at home in a GSC series, winning the bookend games (8-6 and 8-4) with a 6-3 loss in the middle. They went on to take a 16-6 victory over Miles earlier this week.
#12 Cal Poly Pomona (16-9): In one of the top series' of the weekend, the Broncos dropped the first three games of a four-game CCAA set to UC San Diego, but took the series finale, 3-2.
#13 St. Edward's (22-7): The Hilltoppers have won six straight after sweeping a three-game Heartland series on the road at UT-Permian Basin and winning the first two games of their series this weekend against Rogers State at home.
#14 Southern New Hampshire (15-2): The Penmen traveled to Florida and beat Southern Connecticut State (7-6) in 11 innings on Friday before falling at Lynn (10-3) on Saturday. They picked up a 3-1 win over Saint Anselm on Wednesday.
#15 East Stroudsburg (21-3): The Warriors pushed their winning streak to 11 with a four-game PSAC sweep of Bloomsburg (15-5, 5-4, 11-8, 9-0) and a mid-week victory over Philadelphia U (15-7). They began this weekend's play with a 13-0 win over Kutztown on the road but had their streak snapped with a 6-1 loss in the doubleheader nightcap on Thursday.
#16 USC Aiken (23-5): USC Aiken has won seven straight after sweeping a three-game PBC series from North Georgia (3-2, 8-7, 10-2) and picking up a 14-0 mid-week victory over Paine.
#17 Florida Southern (18-7): The Mocs took two-of-three on the road against Embry-Riddle over the weekend and began this weekend's series with a 17-4 win over Eckerd on Thursday.
#18 Florida Tech (17-10): FIT took two-of-three from Palm Beach Atlantic after some schedule shuffling. They took game one (8-4) and game three (17-4) with a 15-9 setback in the middle.
#19 UC San Diego (20-8): The Tritons had one of the better weekends in D-II baseball, taking three-of-four from a very good Cal Poly Pomona team. UCSD took the first three games of the series (6-3, 3-0, 2-1) before falling in the finale, 3-2.
#20 Dixie State (20-6): The Red Storm took three-of-four on the road against Holy Names last weekend and are now 8-4 in PacWest play.
#21 Southern Indiana (11-7): USI is on a three-game skid, but it is a little deeper than that. They lost to D-I Evansville on Friday and then were swept in a pair of games against region favorite Quincy. The Screaming Eagles will be just fine.
#22 Minnesota State (9-5): The Mavericks played a single game, picking up a mid-week 23-8 victory over Bethany Lutheran in a tune-up before conference play.
#23 Mercyhurst (14-8): The Lakers dropped three-of-four to Seton Hill to begin PSAC play last weekend, but have rebounded to win three straight so far this week, including a mid-week victory at Malone (10-3) and a doubleheader sweep of Slippery Rock (5-2 and 14-2) to begin this weekend's PSAC play.
#24 Belmont Abbey (24-6-1): The Crusaders have been making their way up in to the rankings for weeks, and took two-of-three from Limestone over the weekend in a trio of one-run contests. They picked up a quality mid-week win over Francis Marion (in another one-run game) but fell 13-1 in another mid-week game to Lenoir-Rhyne.
#25 Alabama-Huntsville (17-11): The Chargers are on a six-game skid now after losing the final two games to West Florida a few weekends back, dropping a non-conference game to Trevecca Nazarene and then getting swept in a three-game GSC set at Delta State this past weekend.
CSU Monterey Bay (18-4): The Otters remain a threat out West in the CCAA, sitting at 7-3 in conference play. They took three-of-four from San Francisco State last weekend.
Missouri-St. Louis (12-3): One of the top competitors to Quincy in the Midwest region, the Tritons had a gaudy record before going 2-2 at the regional crossover, beating Walsh (4-0) and Kentucky Wesleyan (13-5) around a pair of losses to Tiffin (6-3) and St. Joseph's (5-2).
Lander (25-6): Lander continues to be one of the best unranked teams, having now won 17 of their last 18. Last weekend, they took two-of-three from Columbus State, then picked up huge mid-week victories over Claflin (22-4) and Anderson (24-3).
