2015 MLB Draft - Update Through Two Days

The 2015 MLB Draft is through two of its three days of picks, and NCAA Division II has been well-represented in the first 315 picks. Below, we give you a comprehensive list of the Division II players who have been drafted through the first two days, all in one spot.

There weren't many surprises on day one of the draft, as the first two rounds were conducted. It was expected that two D-II players would find themselves taken on day one, as Cal Poly Pomona's Cody Ponce (#32) and Azusa Pacific's Josh Staumont (#65) were both ranked well within the top 75 picks that were drafted in the first day. Ponce at #55 to the Milwaukee Brewers and Staumont at #64 to the Kansas City Royals, both in round two.

Both of them found themselves drafted, as expected, but there was a surprise in there for the Division II world, as West Alabama's Tanner Rainey had his name called at pick #71, beating his pre-draft MLB.com prospect ranking of #122 by a fair amount, and that means the Cincinnati Reds must be very impressed with his abilities to take him in the Competitive Balance Round B selections.

On day two of the draft, the field of Division II draftees grew even larger, as 13 Division II players heard their names called.

Of course, those who are listed as only juniors have the option to come back to school, although I have to think that a fair amount of the players drafted through day two will be more than happy to head off to professional baseball rather than return to college and risk injury. I think that, for sure, you can count on Ponce, Staumont, Allen, Helsley and Cardenas to head to the minor league system at the very least in terms of non-seniors who were drafted.

If I have missed any Division II players drafted who are not listed below, please let me know in the comments! This is simply a gathering process through the list of draftees, relying on me to have my eye caught by any Division II school listed, so if I miss anyone, let me know!

Congratulations to all the Division II players who have been given the opportunity to continue their baseball careers. I will be back with another recap post on Wednesday night with the remainder of Division II draft picks as rounds 11 through 40 are completed.
