Top Five Showdown Highlights Week Six Action

Usually, this is where we would say that "it doesn't get much bigger than this", as #2 Nova Southeastern will travel to #3 USC Aiken this weekend...but we might possibly get #1 Tampa against #2 Nova Southeastern next week if things keep up. However, until then, here is our preview of the week six action, which includes that monumental top five match-up and a plethora of other top-notch series' this weekend.

The highlighted series of the week was an easy one to pick this time. #2 Nova Southeastern is traveling to #3 USC Aiken for three games, beginning Thursday (Mar. 9) night at 6 p.m. Eastern. This will most likely be the biggest match-up between teams from different regions that we'll see this year. Settle in for some high-quality baseball between these two squads.

And below, we see the schedule for the upcoming week for the top 25 teams in the most recent PerfectGame.org Top 25 poll:

#1 Tampa (12-4, 2-1 SSC): The Spartans will have a very busy week coming up. They'll welcome in to town fellow SSC foe Saint Leo for three games, then take on Bridgeport on Sunday (Mar. 12) and Seton Hill on Monday (Mar. 13). Of course, some eyes might be on next weekend's match-up at #2 Nova Southeastern already...

#2 Nova Southeastern (14-4, 5-1 SSC): As noted above, NSU heads to #3 USC Aiken for our D2 Diamond Series of the Week. The Sharks will then face Merrimack on Monday (Mar. 13) and Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday (Mar. 15)...again, though...next weekend's schedule features #1 Tampa, so hopefully nobody will get ahead of themselves.

#3 USC Aiken (16-3, 6-0 PBC): The Pacers have a tough test on their hands facing #2 Nova Southeastern in our D2 Diamond Series of the Week. They'll also face Emmanuel for a single game on Wednesday (Mar. 15).

#4 North Georgia (13-4, 2-1 PBC): Another series you can see featured above, UNG welcomes in to town Armstrong State for a crucial three-game PBC series. They'll also face Auburn-Montgomery on Tuesday (Mar. 14) and West Georgia on Wednesday (Mar. 15).

#5 Dixie State (14-4, 3-1 PacWest): The Trailblazers will finish out their 18-game home stand (!!!) with four conference tilts against Concordia-Irvine over the weekend.

#6 Emporia State (13-3, 3-0 MIAA): ESU will be taking on a pretty tough opponent this weekend at home, where they are 8-1 so far on the season, when they face Missouri Southern for three MIAA contests. They'll also take on Newman on Wednesday (Mar. 15) for a single contest.

#7 Minnesota State (5-4): The Mavericks finished off their spring break trip in Florida with a victory over Walsh, and they will have this upcoming week off before starting NSIC play next weekend against Mary.

#8 Colorado Mesa (11-5, 4-0 RMAC): CMU will continue conference play with four games on the road at Colorado-Colorado Springs.

#9 Angelo State (12-2): The Rams will hit the road for four games this weekend at Texas-Permian Basin.

#10 Point Loma (10-3, 4-0 PacWest): The very impressive Sea Lions will most likely continue its conference success this weekend as they hit the road to take on Holy Names for a four-game series.

#11 Cal Poly Pomona (11-8, 7-1 CCAA): As seen above, the Broncos, who have found their groove in conference play, will take on a solid Cal State Los Angeles team in four games this weekend, with the first two games at home and the latter two on the road.

#12 Azusa Pacific (13-1): Quite possibly one of the two hottest teams in the nation right now, APU will begin PacWest play this weekend with four games at home against Fresno Pacific.

#13 Mercyhurst (8-1): Hurst is riding a six-game winning streak in to a four-game series on the road at Goldey-Beacmon College.

#14 Franklin Pierce (4-3): The Ravens are traveling to a familiar spot this weekend for four games, as FPU will head to the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary for a pair of games on Friday (Mar. 10) against St. Thomas Aquinas and Dominican, and then another pair of games on Saturday (Mar. 12) against Slippery Rock and Saint Augustine's. Their schedule won't stop there, as they'll also head to #17 Mount Olive for a pair of games early in the week and finish off their seven-game, six-day stretch with a single game at Wingate on Wednesday (Mar. 15).

#15 Flagler (14-6, 3-0 PBC): Flagler continues PBC play this weekend with three games at home against Lander before they take on West Chester in a doubleheader on Tuesday (Mar. 14).

#16 Lynn (14-6, 4-2 SSC): A busy week ahead for the Fighting Knights, as they'll face Palm Beach Atlantic in a three-game non-conference set before facing Molloy on Monday (Mar. 13) and Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday (Mar. 14).

#17 Mount Olive (16-5, 6-0 Conf. Carolinas): Making its first appearance in the top 25 this year, Mount Olive has won nine of its last 10 games and will be facing King for three conference games this weekend on the road, before welcoming #14 Franklin Pierce in to town for one game each on Monday (Mar. 13) and Tuesday (Mar. 14).

#18 Henderson State (13-5, 7-2 GAC): The Reddies will continue GAC play this weekend with three games on the road at Arkansas Tech, and then face Harding for a single game on the road on Tuesday (Mar. 14).

#19 Lubbock Christian (13-6): LCU will play its first conference games this weekend as the Chaps will take on Oklahoma Christian in a trio of games on the road to begin Heartland Conference play.

#20 Central Missouri (13-3, 5-1 MIAA): Another series that is already noted above, the Mules will continue MIAA play with three games at home against Central Oklahoma over the weekend. They'll also face Drury for a single game on the road on Tuesday (Mar. 14).

#21 Millersville (11-4): The Marauders have this weekend off, but will face Wilmington in a single game at home on Wednesday (Mar. 15).

#22 Chico State (15-4, 8-0 CCAA): Chico has been dominating early CCAA play, but will face a tough test this weekend when the team heads to Sonoma State for four games over the weekend.

#23 West Florida (10-8, 5-4 GSC): The Argos are on the verge of falling out of the rankings, but will have an opportunity to keep a number in front of their name with three games at home against Alabama-Huntsville for GSC play before taking on Embry-Riddle on the road in a single game each on Tuesday (Mar. 14) and Wednesday (Mar. 15).

#24 Delta State (13-5, 6-3 GSC): DSU will have a late match-up this weekend, facing West Georgia in three GSC games on Sunday (Mar. 12) and Monday (Mar. 13) before hitting the road for a contest at D1 Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday (Mar. 15).

#25 Wayne State (Mich.) (6-4): The Warriors will begin their spring break week in Florida for the RussMatt on Sunday (Mar. 12) when they face West Chester. They'll continue with a doubleheader on Monday (Mar. 13) against Pace and another single game against West Chester on Wednesday (Mar. 15).
