Preparing for Week Three in D-II Baseball

A couple more schools throw their hat in to the ring this weekend in the world of Division II baseball, and non-conference match-ups still rule, although a couple conferences are already getting in to conference play, as well. Inside, we will point out a couple competitive match-ups this weekend for everyone to look out for, and provide ways to follow them for all you D-II baseball fans out there! Included inside? Our Marquee Match-Up of the Week!

Marquee Match-Up of the Week

#6 Tampa (6-0) at #10 West Florida (2-2)
Game One: 2/12 7:00 PM ET (Live Stats | Video)
Game Two: 2/13 3:00 PM ET (Live Stats | Video)
Game Three: 2/14 1:00 PM ET (Live Stats | Video)

Projected Pitching Match-Ups:

Game One
Brandon Nagem (0-0, 6.75 ERA) vs Michael Calkins (0-0, 2.25 ERA)

Game Two
JT Granat (1-0, 0.00 ERA) vs David Heintz (1-0, 4.50 ERA)

Game Three
Walker O'Connor (0-0, 7.36 ERA) vs Brad Hencke (1-0, 0.00 ERA)

It doesn't get much better than this for an early-season series. The defending champions have already showed some spectacular bats to lead the way on offense, while the pitching has been nearly as good. Both these schools should be South regional tournament teams at the end of the season, but this is a chance for UWF to insert their name in to the real contenders for the regional crown. This earns billing as our "Marquee Match-Up of the Week" for this week.

Other series to keep tabs on this weekend:

Armstrong State (4-1) at USC Aiken (3-1)
Game One: 2/12 5:00 PM ET (Live Stats | Live Video)
Game Two: 2/13 1:00 PM ET (Live Stats | Live Video)
Game Three: 2/13 3:30 PM ET (Live Stats | Live Video)

A pair of Peach Belt Conference and regional contenders kick off their conference seasons on Friday & Saturday.

Cal State-Monterey Bay (5-0) at Azusa Pacific (2-2)
Game One: 2/11 4-2 CSMB Win (Box Score)
Game Two: 2/12 6:00 PM ET (Live Stats/Video)
Game Three: 2/12 9:00 PM ET (Live Stats/Video)
Game Four: 2/13 3:00 PM ET (Live Stats/Video)

The Otters from CSMB have gotten off to one of the best starts in the country, while APU should compete for the top spot in the PacWest this season. The Otters already won game one of the series on Thursday to move to 6-0, setting them up to possibly be the first team to 10-0 by the end of the weekend.

Flagler (1-1) at Lander (4-2)
Game One: 2/12 4:00 PM ET (Live Stats | Video)
Game Two: 2/13 1:00 PM ET (Live Stats)
Game Three: 2/14 12:00 PM ET (Live Stats)

Another series between Peach Belt Conference contenders. Then again, in a conference so wide open, it could be anyone's conference. Flagler is still an up-and-coming squad, while Lander is looking to regain their form from a couple years ago.

#9 Minnesota State (0-0) at Arkansas-Monticello (3-1)
Game One: 2/12 3-2 MSU Win (Box Score)
Game Two: 2/12 3:00 PM ET (Live Stats | Video)
Game Three: 2/13 12:00 PM ET (Live Stats | Video)

One of the top teams in the country in MSU gets its season kicked off down in Arkansas. The Mavericks have already taken game one of the series behind a strong pitching performance, and they'll look to get off to a great start in the quest for another trip to Cary.

Tarleton State (3-3) at St. Mary's (4-2)
Game One: 2/12 4:00 PM ET (Live Stats | Video)
Game Two: 2/13 2:00 PM ET (Live Stats | Video)
Game Three: 2/13 4:00 PM ET (Live Stats | Video)

Though it is non-conference, it is certainly a huge regional series for both TSU and the Rattlers.

Cal State-Dominguez Hills (3-1) vs #14 California Baptist (2-1)
Game One: 2/11 3-0 CBU Win (Box Score)
Game Two: 2/12 9:00 PM ET at CBU (Live Stats | Video | Audio)
Game Three: 2/13 3:00 PM ET at CSDH (Live Stats)

The Lancers began the series with a victory on Thursday, and the top-15 team will look to keep it going to try and claim superiority out on the West Coast along with Cal Poly Pomona.

#19 Saint Leo (3-0) at Hawaii Pacific (0-0)
Game One: 2/10 6-1 HPU Win (Box Score)
Game Two: 2/12 11:00 PM ET (Live Stats)
Game Three: 2/13 7:00 PM ET (Live Stats)
Game Four: 2/13 10:00 PM ET (Live Stats)
Game Five: 2/14 5:00 PM ET (Live Stats)

The Sharks picked up a victory in the opening game of the series, but in this match-up of what will probably be the longest travel between a pair of teams, the Lions should be able to pick up at least a few of their own. St. Leo is still looking to break through in to the top tier of the South region and the Sunshine State Conference, and this is a solid non-conference match-up to get prepared for that tough grind they have ahead.
