A pair of elimination games loom on Wednesday (5/27) at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, as another pair of flags will be taken down and the field is officially at the halfway point come Wednesday night as we drill down to the final four in the nation.

I have to anticipate we will see a pitching match-up between the Reddies' Cody Jones (6-3, 4.99 ERA, 60/16 K/BB in 66.2 IP) and Angelo State's Bryce Zak (5-6, 2.67 ERA, 85/35 K/BB in 70.2 IP) in this contest, as both teams fight for their lives in the tournament. Zak might be one of the best #3 pitchers left in Cary, making this a tall task for the Reddies, but we have already seen plenty of fight from the HSU squad, and they shouldn't be counted out no matter what. If the Rams go another route, the only other two pitches who have started games on the mound this year for ASU are Kellen Rholl (0-1, 5.91 ERA, 17/10 K/BB in 21.1 IP) and Matt Shannon (4-1, 6.50 ERA, 32/10 K/BB in 36 IP).
The winner of this game will go on to face Tampa on Thursday (5/28) at 3 P.M.
Wednesday, May 27th, 4:00 PM Eastern (Elimination Game)
Cal Poly Pomona (44-16)
vs
Mercyhurst (40-10)

The Broncos still have plenty left in the pitching tank, as they should be rolling out Chris Powell (7-2, 2.44 ERA, 73/28 K/BB in 84.2 IP, .199 BAA) to take on Mercyhurst's Cam Knott (5-1, 2.70 ERA, 54/13 K/BB in 43.1 IP) or Matthew Jaskolka (7-1, 3.47 ERA, 51/8 K/BB in 46.2 IP) in what should be a spectacular pitching match-up no matter who the hurlers are.
The winner of this game will go on to face Catawba on Thursday (5/28) at 7 P.M.
